Justices dealing blow

What? Huh? Justices are dealing blow??? Now that really is an example of a federal judiciary running amok.

But seriously, this really does blow. Federal prosecuters can now nab people sick with HIV and cancer that user marijuana for medical purposes presribed by their doctors. That's not good for sick people. Didn't Jesus teach us to help sick people?

Ten states have passed laws to allow medical marijuana. And from what I understand, in 2003, these laws held up in the Supreme Court due to the fact that the Feds couldn't regulate it because it did not fall under the umbrella of interstate commerce. The marijuana in question was not transported across state lines.

George 'why does he hate cancer patients?' Bush appealed on the grounds that the states' legalizing medical marijuana goes against the federal Controlled Substances Act.

Justice Stevens who wrote the decision seems to think that folks who want to use marijuana for medicinal purposes need to get Congress to approve it's use. But seeing as how Congress is skewed toward the right and vastly with the president on the issue of hating HIV and cancer patients, I don't see this happening anytime soon.

Justice O'Conner, who wrote the dissent, argued that the states should rule on this issue, not the federal government.

“The states’ core police powers have always included authority to define criminal law and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of their citizens,” said O’Connor, who was joined in her dissent by two other states’ rights advocates: Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and Justice Clarence Thomas.

Follow the money. The politicians can not afford to allow any drugs to become controlled by the government as they would lose money. The drug lords are a main source of campaign funding - money washed through their many political laundering schemes - rare coins as one of them
